Like King David, I often find myself crying
out to the Lord from the depths of my soul for Him to refresh my heart and renew His Spirit
within me. I (and I am sure that many of you, too)
sometimes have times when I find myself feeling completely drained,
wondering if there is anyone who really cares about me, and wondering
why things have to be the way they are. Why is it that we seem to
forget who to reach out to for the help we need? God has promised
that He will be there if we call on Him, so I encourage you now, if you
are feeling lonely and afraid, to reach out and ask Him to refresh you
and lift you up again.

MY SOUL, WHY ARE YOU SO DOWNCAST?
My soul, why are you so downcast?
Don't you know your Father is near?
Don't you know that when you call to Him,
Each and every word He'll hear?

Don't you know that He sent His only Son
To die on the cross in your place?
Don't you know that, with that sacrifice,
He showed us the fullness of His grace?

Don't you know that, when you stumble,
He will never let you fall,
And that He supplies your every need,
No matter how big or small?

Don't you know that He will shelter you
When storms are raging all around,
And that, in His gentle, loving arms,
Is where peace and mercy may be found?

So, my soul, call out to Him right now,
Open wide and let Him in –
For it is only when He has control
That my new life can begin.
