REMEMBER 12 OCTOBER 2002

As most people now know, on 12 October 2002 Bali was rocked by a terrorist bombing attack in which well over 100 Australian people were either killed, wounded or are still missing.  Most of these people were young, carefree folk enjoying a holiday they had planned for months or years.  Many of them were young members of football teams who were celebrating the end of their season for the year.  People in Australia have been absolutely devastated by this event, and still can't believe what has happened.  Nothing like this has ever happened to our people before.  Numerous other people from Bali and other countries were also killed and wounded.  Just like 9 September 2001, this bombing came right out of the blue without anyone suspecting that it would happen.  As in New York and Washington, some of the people will never be found because the blasts were so horrific.

The residents of Bali are a peace-loving people, and many of them have now had their livelihoods destroyed by this bomb attack.  They rely on tourism for their jobs, and since the attack no one wants to go there, so shops are closing and the people just do not know what is going to happen to their futures.  

  The families and friends of all these people just cannot comprehend what is happening in the world today.  Where can anyone go where they can be sure they will be safe?  Why are these hateful, despicable events taking place?  When will it all end, and how many more people are going to be killed in the meantime?  How long will it be before these terrorists are found and are brought to justice.

I ask all people to pray for the families and friends of the people affected by this tragedy.  Most of the victims will be maimed or scarred for life, either physically or emotionally.  Many had limbs severed or were severely burned.  They really need our prayers and support at this time.  So please, reach out to the Lord and ask for His healing hand to be placed on these people to help them to come to grips with what has happened.  I pray that the Lord will fill them with His peace that passes all understanding during this time of healing and sorrow, and that He will pour out upon them an abundance of His mercy and grace.

I just know that the Lord must be weeping over what is happening in the world today as more and more people turn their backs on Him and turn away from the truth.  People ask why He is allowing these things to happen, but what they can't seem to see is that He has given us all free will, and for as long as there are people in this world who go against His teachings and refuse to allow Him into our schools and government buildings, these things will continue to happen.  As long as there are people out there preaching hatred and violence things will only get worse.  He is not to blame - people are!
