THE REASON
THAT YOU CAME
"This is my body broken for you,"
You said to the twelve that day.
"This is my blood, shed for you,
By which your sins are washed away."

"Eat of this bread, and drink of this wine,
Whenever you gather in My Name,
And as you do, remember Me,
And the reason that I came."

The jagged stripes upon Your back,
The crown of thorns upon Your head,
The nails they placed in Your hands and feet,
And Your blood You so freely shed.

Even though You knew what lay in store –
The shame, the agony and despair –
You still chose to do Your Father's will,
And all my sin and pain to bear.

Although I cannot fully comprehend
What You did that blessed day,
I know that You did it all for me,
And that my ransom You did pay.

So now I need have no pain or fear,
And I need never suffer shame,
For when You died You took them all,
And that's the reason that You came!
